Jared Six 10 Year Vegan Transformation
MY VEGAN TRANSFORMATION
Hello, my name is "Jared Six". (Although I sometimes go by my vegan superhero name "Vitamin J6".)
I became a vegan on the day that I turned 30 (which was October 6th 2008) and I am currently 43. (Or as I like to think of it, I am 43 years old in "Human Years" and 13 years old in "Humane Years".)
Back when I first went vegan there weren't as many vegans as there are today. I had never actually met a vegan in real life before turning 30 and it was also strongly believed back then that vegan diets were deficient in protein and would cause you to become really skinny and weak.
To make matters worse I was already really skinny and weak to begin with, so I was nervous about going vegan, and my friends and family members were worried about the thought of me going vegan too, but after watching the documentary "Earthling" I decided to go vegan anyways.
Within a month of being vegan I felt so much more energetic that I started walking to places instead of driving to them, and after a while I ended up just getting rid of my car altogether.
I then decided to try yoga and I fell in love with it!
And even though I was the epitome of a "Hardgainer" and I had just switched to a diet that many believed was too low in protein, I also started lifting weights with the hopes of getting stronger and finally gaining some healthy weight, and below are some pictures documenting my vegan transformation...
This was me during my first year of being vegan viewed from the front and the back showing off how flexible and strong I was getting thanks to yoga and weightlifting.
As you can see I very underweight when I first started this diet, and just to show that I had always been underweight CLICK HERE to see some pictures of what I looked like before I went vegan.
THE FOLLOWING YEAR
"Muscles Starting To Sprout"
When I first posted this photo on-line people who hadn't seen me for a while didn't even believe it was real and were convinced that I just posted my head on someone else's body.
"Back Double Biceps"
Even I was starting to wonder if what I would see when I looked in the mirror was really me.
VEGAN FOR 8 YEARS
VEGAN FOR 10 YEARS
10 years would be a long time to go without something that we "can't live without".
Why was I taught in "Health Class" at school that we "needed" 2 - 3 servings of meat and 2 - 3 servings of dairy per day (which is pretty much at every meal) to be strong and healthy?
I just ate over 10,000 meals in a row without any meat or dairy and feel stronger and healthier now than I did 10 years ago!

WHERE DO I GET MY PROTEIN?
For the past 13 years I haven't consumed any meat, dairy, or eggs whatsoever. I also haven't taken any protein supplements since going vegan and I never pay attention to how much protein is in the foods that I eat, because I simply don't believe in the idea that vegan diets are deficient in protein.
WHERE DO I GET MY ENERGY?
For the past 13 years I haven't consumed any caffeine or "energy drinks" and yet I wake up early every morning and am far more physically active now in my 40's than I was in my 20's. "Increased Energy" was something that I started to experience almost immediately when I changed my diet, and my energy levels have remained high.
WHERE DO I GET MY HEALTH?
For the past 13 years I haven't taken any pharmaceutical drugs and have been fortunate to have not needed any surgeries either. (Not even any dental work.)
My dad and his dad both hard heart attacks, and not only did my mom have cancer but both of her parents died from cancer before I was born. So you might say that heart disease and cancer "run in my family" and that I should be worried about that, but instead of spending the rest of my life worrying that I am going to get cancer or have a heart attack I will instead spend the rest of my life eating a HEALTHY whole foods version of the vegan diet (which I believe will give me the best protection possible) and I will also continue to exercise and do other things that will result in me having even less to worry about.
I want to stress that I am not "against" drugs, doctors, and surgeries, but I do believe that if you can find a way of living which results in you rarely (if ever) needing drugs, doctors, and surgeries then you have found a priceless treasure!
