Even If We Were "Natural Meat Eaters"...
EVEN IF WE WERE NATURAL MEAT EATERS...
Even if we were "natural meat eaters", it would mean that we should be eating "natural meats", and virtually none of the meats that people are consuming today could be considered "natural"...
1. EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF MEAT
Even if we need to eat meat to be healthy, do we really need to eat it every single day? And do we really need to eat it at every single meal?
The average person's daily diet will be something like the following...
1. Bacon & eggs for breakfast.
2. Ham & cheese sandwich for lunch.
3. Meat & potatoes for dinner.
And don't forget about the "All You Can Eat Chicken Wings" at the bar on game night, or the "Meat Lover's Pizza" at "Pizza Hut" with 8 different kinds of meat on it, or the millions of turkeys who are slaughtered each fall so everyone can have a traditional "Thanksgiving" dinner.
Even if eating meat was "necessary" for our health, we would still have a moral obligation to figure out how much meat we actually need and to try not to over-exceed that amount so we aren't causing a lot of unnecessary killing and suffering of animals.
2. FACTORY FARMED MEAT
More than 99% of the meat produced in the U.S. comes from "factory farms" where the animals are raised in an unnatural environment, fed an unnatural diet, and given growth hormones to make them grow unnaturally big and fast, and nothing about this could be considered "natural".
3. COOKED MEAT
If the sight and smell of a dead animal turns off your appetite instead of turning it on, you might not be a "natural meat eater", because most "natural meat eaters" will salivate at the sight and smell of a dead animal. (And some will even roll on top of a dead animal just to have the scent of dead prey on them.)
If you put some raw meat (such as beef, chicken, or pork) in your mouth, and your instincts are to immediately spit it back out and then run to the sink to wash the taste out of your mouth, you might not be a "natural meat eater", because most "natural meat eaters" will eat their meat completely raw.
Carnivorous animals have strong stomach acids that allow them to eat meat raw, but according to the USDA, we humans should not eat beef, chicken, or pork raw due to harmful bacteria and parasites living in them. And I personally think that if a food has something in it that could harm or even kill us unless we kill it first by boiling and burning it to death, it's a good sign that we aren't designed to eat it.
4. CHOICE-CUT MEAT
Recently, I overheard a group of people talking about a TV show called "Bizarre Foods", and they were talking about how the host of the show will eat monkey brains, pig eyes, bull testicles, and all kinds of other "bizarre" body parts from animals.
But what's ironic about this is that no "natural meat eater" would consider any of those body parts "bizarre", because "natural meat eaters" will usually eat everything that can be eaten. (And some will simply swallow their prey whole!)
Very little goes to waste in the natural world, so when we humans kill bears just for certain portions of their meat or kill elephants just for their tusks, or kill lions just for a "selfie", we are being wasteful and aren't acting like "natural meat eaters".
5. OLD MEAT
When you walk through the "meat department" of a grocery store, the meats will look red and fresh. But did you know that many of these red meats would actually be brown if it wasn't for the fact that they were treated with carbon monoxide gas to make them look fresh even if they're not?
Like the inside of an apple, meat will naturally start to rot and turn brown when it gets exposed to air.
Certain carnivorous animals (like lions) will eat their prey when it is still fresh, and any rotting leftovers will then be consumed by certain carnivorous animals (like vultures and maggots) who are scavengers and eat meat that is decaying.
Meat from the grocery store that has been treated with carbon monoxide will continue to look red and fresh even if is taken out of refrigeration and left out at room temperature for a very long time. (Which can make it difficult to discern whether it should be eaten by a "natural meat eater" who is designed to eat fresh meat or a "natural meat eater" who is designed to eat rotting meat.)
6. PROCESSED MEAT
Because of the way that meat is processed these days, a "McDonald's" hamburger can contain meat from over 100 different cows, and the meat from just one cow can literally end up in thousands of products that will be distributed across the country and possibly even abroad.
So whenever there is a recall on meat, it's not uncommon for tons and tons of food to be pulled from store shelves and sent to the landfill.
Most people realize that processed meats aren't good for us, yet most people are still eating lots of processed meats.
So if we are going to use the argument that our ancient ancestors ate meat and therefore we should eat meat too, maybe we should ask ourselves if humans would even exist right now if our ancient ancestors had been eating the processed foods that most people are eating today.
EDIT: The "World Health Organization" recently declared that processed meats like "hotdogs", "bologna", and "bacon" are "carcinogens" (known to cause cancer in humans) and that they are on par with cigarette smoke and alcohol. So if we want the human race to still be alive and thriving for many generations to come, then maybe we should stop eating processed meats NOW before it's too late.
