1. REMOVE ALL TOXIC HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS FROM YOUR HOME
If a product has words like "WARNING", "CAUTION", or "DANGER" written on it, or if it has a drawing of a skull with cross
bones you should never bring it into your home. Products like these will pollute the air in your home, and if you have
young children living in your home leaving products like these laying around can be just as dangerous as leaving a
loaded gun laying around. Below is a list that I have compiled of over 100 examples of common household products that
are toxic and that I feel should never be brought into your home...
How can anyone expect to be healthy if they are washing their clothes, their dishes, and even their own bodies with
products that contain toxic chemicals? Surely there has to be a better and safer alternative. You can seek out "Non-
Toxic" versions of many of the products listed above if you wish, but what I have found is that we don't need any of these
kinds of products when we are living a healthy lifestyle.
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that we need a lot of these products, (Especially things like deodorant.) but
what most people don't realize is that the best "deodorant" that you could ever have is a clean diet. (It's a good idea to
take showers to clean the outside of your body when you get dirty, but it's even more important to give yourself an
"internal shower" by drinking lots of pure water and eating a diet of water rich fruits and vegetables.)
If you eat unhealthy foods that are difficult to digest (like meat) it will be sitting in your stomach for days and it will start to
rot inside of you before it comes out, so of course you will have bad breath, bad body odor, and bad skin if you eat
foods like that.
The saying, "If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin." is a good rule of thumb when it comes to body care products...
(If you can't eat your bars of soap or drink your bottles of shampoo without getting sick or having to call 911, then you
shouldn't be using them to clean your body!)
The best thing about getting rid of all of the toxic products in your home (or the worst thing depending on how you
choose to look at it.) is that once you have lived for an extended period of time without these toxic chemicals in your
home and you have gotten used to breathing cleaner air you will start to become a lot more sensitive to toxins whenever
you come into contact with them...
For me personally just walking down the cleaning aisle in a department store will cause me to start to feel dizzy and
nauseous because the smell of the bleach and detergents are way too strong for me now, so I have to stay far away
from those kinds of products. I also used to be able to sit in a room with people who were smoking cigarettes and it
wouldn't even bother me, but now if I'm on the second floor of a house and someone is in the basement smoking I can
smell it right away and I will want to go outside to get away from it.
Right now you might enjoy being around people who wear perfume and cologne, and you might enjoy being in houses
that have air fresheners and potpourris sprayed in the air, but once you have become really clean on the inside, you
simply won't want to be around these chemical aromas any more because your body will recognize them as the toxic
poisons that they are and it will let you know that it doesn't want to be near them.
If you live in the city and you are following the diet and lifestyle outlined in this book you will probably find yourself
wanting to move to the country or to a tropical location because of how sensitive you are getting to all of the pollution in
the city air. Again, for some people this might seem like a problem at first because you may start to find it difficult just to
walk down a city sidewalk without feeling nauseous from the smell of diesel fuel in the air, but understand that it's far
better to be aware of how harmful these things are and to take action now rather than remaining ignorant about it and
letting yourself continue to be poisoned until it's too late.

2. LET FRESH AIR IN YOUR HOME
It is estimated that the air in the average household is 10 times more polluted than the air outside of the house. Many
people attempt to improve the quality of the air in their homes by purchasing air fresheners and potpourris, which in my
opinion are simply "good smelling poisons", because although they can help to cover up and hide odors, they do it by
adding chemical fragrances to the air that are toxic and will actually make the air your home more unhealthy. (Plus they
do absolutely nothing at all to fix what is causing the bad odors in the first place.)
The best ways to improve the quality of the air in your home is to keep your windows open as much as possible and let
some fresh air in the house. The next best option would be to get a good quality air purifier.

3. SOUND PROOF YOUR HOME IF YOU LIVE IN THE CITY
Below is a list of sounds that can have a negative effect on your health. All of these sounds can cause headaches,
raise your blood pressure, induce angry or depressed, make getting a good night sleep next to impossible, and of
course can cause hearing loss... (It is estimated that 90% of people living in the city will suffer hearing loss due to city
noises.)
Many houses seem to have been built by people who didn't even consider outdoor noises when they built them, so it's
usually up to homeowners to soundproof their homes after they move into them if they want peace and quiet. I would
also encourage you to be careful what sounds you allow to come into your home through a radio. (Even the most
distasteful and negative messages can seem ok if they are set to music.)

4. GET RID OF YOUR TV
I believe that the most toxic things of all that you can put in your body are disturbing images and sounds that enter
through your eyes and ears, because unlike chemical toxins that build up in your body which can ultimately be removed
through cleansing, negative memories aren't as easy to get rid of...
The average child will see over 10,000 murder scenes on television before they are even a teenager as well as over
100,000 scenes of attempted murders. That's a lot of violence for anyone, much less a young child to be exposed to.
The "Family Room" is now referred to as The "TV Room" in most households and a lot of kids have a TV in their
bedroom. It is also estimated that the average child spends an average of 6 1/2 hours watching TV a day and only 3
1/2 minutes actually talking to their parents, which means that they basically grow up with a TV as their baby sitter and
sadly enough many children will develop a stronger love and a closer bond with the TV families on their favorite TV
shows than they will with their real life family.
Although it can seem very convenient if you are a parent to simply leave your children in-front of a TV while you do
household chores, go to work, go shopping, or go to sleep you need to ask yourself if you would willingly hire a
babysitter for your children that talked and behaved like the characters that they are watching on TV, because like it or
not, if your children are spending several hours a day watching TV and only a few minutes a day (or less) talking to you,
many of the values and life lessons that they learn will be from what they are watching on TV and not from you.
Even if you're a parent who goes out of your way to make sure that your child isn't being exposed to TV shows, movies,
and video games that are full of violence you need to realize that even a lot of the seemingly harmless sitcoms can be
just as harmful to children, and if you don't believe me please do the following experiment...
Step 1 - Find a sitcom that utilizes laugh tracks or a live studio audience that laughs during the "funny" moments.
Step 2 - Watch an episode of the sitcom in question and count the number of times that the audience laughs.
Step 3 - Keep track of how many times the audience laughs because one of the characters gets made fun of.
If you do this experiment you will quickly realize that almost every sitcom (including a lot of the ones that are considered
"family friendly") rely almost entirely on the use of insults and put-downs to make their audience laugh and this teaches
children that the easiest way to make people laugh and like them is to make fun of and belittle others.
And if you think that just because you're an adult that you aren't influenced or effected by what is coming through your
television, try telling that to the advertising agencies that make BILLIONS of dollars each year on TV advertising that is
designed to get YOU to buy, think, and believe what they want you to.
When you are watching TV you are literally in a hypnotic like state and your brain activity slows down so dramatically
that subliminal and other forms of hidden messages are easy to use and are highly effective, and because of the
passive state that TV viewers are in all that advertisers really need to do to get viewers interested in their product is to
get them to associate their product with feeling really good. (If you want to make a successful "Denture Cream"
commercial, simply show some old people dancing and mention the brand of denture cream at the end of the video...
That's really all it takes in TV advertising.)
TV has been referred to as "The Plug-In Drug" because of how addicting it is. Even if there is nothing interesting on
television people will still watch it out of habit and addiction. (Right now there is probably someone watching the movie
"Jaws" for the 23rd time simply because they can't find anything better to watch at the moment and they don't want to
turn off the TV and actually find something to do.)
Some people act like they couldn't live without a TV. (If you know anyone who repossess people's furniture for a living
ask them if they have any crazy stories about trying to repossess someone's TV and they will probably have a lot of
stories to tell of people reacting as if someone was trying to take away their only child.)
Below are 10 simple "Yes" or "No" questions about your TV viewing habits. If you answer "Yes" to any of these
questions it is a strong sign that you are addicted to watching TV...
- Do you watch TV in the morning, afternoon, and night?
- Do you have the ability to know what time it is simply by turning on the TV and seeing what TV shows are on?
- Do you often sit down with the intentions of only watching a 30 minute TV show and end up watching TV for hours?
- Do you get so consumed by what's on TV that other people in the house have to raise their voice to get your attention?
- Do you have friends, family members, or room mates that constantly tell you that you watch too much TV?
- Do you feel uncomfortable eating or sleeping if the TV isn't on in the background?
- Do you feel a strong need to leave your TV on when you aren't watching it or even when you leave the house?
- Do you have a TV in your bedroom? On your cellphone? In your car?
- Do you feel uncomfortable if you are watching TV with someone and you aren't the one holding the remote control?
- Do you find that within 5 minutes of getting really angry, sad, or frustrated about something that you turn the TV on?

5. PRACTICE NATURAL AND PEACEFUL "PEST" CONTROL
Please do not kill your roommates regardless of how small or what species they are!
If ants, mice, and cockroaches are coming into your home and multiplying understand that they are only there because
your home is "inviting" to them in some way. Please do not buy "Mouse Traps", "Fly Swatters, or "Bug Spray", or hire an
exterminator that will spray your entire house with toxic fumes that are so dangerous that you won't even be allowed to
go back inside your home until 7 days later.
People who complain that they have "pests" in their house typically leave food out for these pests on a regular basis.
(They often let dirty dishes pile up and sit out overnight or even for several days at a time, they have old food crumbs all
over the floor, and they throw their left over food scraps away in an indoor trashcan.) They also let their homes get so
cluttered that insects can easily hide, breed, and live without being easily seen. If these people cleaned their house and
kept it clean the insects would move out.
Fruit flies are a big problem for people who are new to this diet. People will place a large amounts of fruit on their
kitchen counter and a few days later there are lots of little fruit flies in their kitchen. I had this problem too in the
beginning, but now I can have hundreds of pounds of fruit in my house and not have a single fruit fly and this is because
I understand that fruit flies only show up if there is bad fruit in the house, so if fruit flies show up it means that there is
bad fruit in the house that needs to be removed. No need to "exterminate" them and then have to "exterminate" them
again and again in the future, just inspect your fruit from time to time to makes sure that there isn't any bruised, moldy,
or punctured fruit in your house and they won't show up anymore.
The next time you happen to see a spider, an ant, or a ladybug in your home I would encourage you leave it be or
"gently" capture it and "gently" place it outside. I would also encourage you to look at insects like these up-close
because simply looking at one of them up close may dramatically increase your respect and understanding for them.
They are beautiful when viewed up-close and they also have a lot of amazing abilities. (They can walk up walls, sleep on
the ceiling, fall from heights hundreds of times taller than they are and walk away from it like nothing happened, and
many of them can fly.) And they are most likely harmless and innocent enough that they certainly don't deserve a death
sentence for finding their way into your home.

6. GIVE AWAY EVERYTHING THAT YOU DON'T USE OR NEED
Go through your closets and gather up all of the clothes that you haven't worn in over a year, then go through every
room in your house (Including the attic and the basement.) and gather up any CD's, DVD's, Video Games, Books,
Magazines, Tools, Appliances, and Furniture that you no longer use or need, and once you have gathered up all of your
belongings that you don't use or need anymore, try to let go of as much of it as possible. (Give it to friends or family
that would want it, drop it off at the local "Goodwill" store, have a yard sale or sell everything on E-bay, or simply leave it
somewhere with a note that says "Take Me" on it.)
When an overweight person loses 100 pounds not only will they feel a lot lighter, but they will also feel a lot more free,
and when you get rid of all of the unneeded excess that has been taking up space in your home, you too will feel a lot
lighter and a lot more free. (Plus the next time that you move to a new house it will be so much easier for you and those
who are helping you move.)
Once you have given all of this stuff away and there is nothing in your house that you don't need or use anymore, try to
keep it that way for now on and you will save yourself a large fortune in the future! In the Next Chapter I will talk about
the benefits and importance of becoming a true minimalist.
